Free satellite and topo with Google Earth and Google Voyager

A friend told me about Google Voyager and it is great. It allows you to cache as much data as you like to your local drive. This allows you to use GE without an internet connection.

You simply define the area you are interested in and the altitude you want the images from and it downloads it all to your hard drive. I tested it yesterday and it works perfect.

There is a program called GPS for Google Earth that allows your GPS to work with GE to follow your progress. The program costs $32.

There also is Topo data for GE from the GE library. I am still experimenting with that and will post after I do some testing.

With GE, Voyager and the GPS program you can do what the very expensive programs do for very little money.

Very cool, keep up posted.
This would be a nice addition even for those of us running something else already. And just another reason I like using my laptop in my rig.

I thought the current version of Google earth supported gps, or am I wrong?

It does. I tested it with my cell phone (using a 3rd party app to send the GPS data off of the Fuze) and it seemed to work. Only problem was, I had difficulty transmitting both GPS data and 3G internet data for Google maps at the same time. This program would seemed to solve that problem though (as would me using a bluetooth connection as opposed to the USB).

I'll have to test this out. Thanks for the post.
