Freshest batteries

Searched and nobody seems to have expressed an opinion.

I am wondering where is the best place to buy batteries that have not been on the shelf for too long.

I always feel leery buying them in say Wal-mart or big box stores. If I have to rely on my GPS or SPOT I'd like to be sure the batteries and my spares are as fresh as possible.

Think a store specializining in batteries is best? Radio Shack or such?

Big box stores safe?

I'd buy them from someplace that has a lot of battery turn-over. Smaller, specialty stores are the ones that will have them sitting around for a very long time.

I buy them usually at Costco, or Amazon....and I store them in the freezer.

Roger,

I also think that a place with decent turn-over is a good option. Also, the SPOT is best served with litium batteries instead of alkalines. They last a long time too.

Check with this company www.batteryjunction.com. I buy a lot of batteries from them and they always have good service and prices.

Roger,

I think you mean Batteries Plus. That's the retail chain. They might be okay too, but the one near me was a bit pricey and the sales person knew less about rechargeable batteries than I did. So, I didn't think it was worth it for me to shop there given all the choices we have up here.

Battery Junction is simply an internet only company.

Here's what you're looking for to use in the SPOT. 15 year shelf life. You can even get these at any retail store, but you'll pay more.

Here's a good option for the GPS: low self-discharge rechargeable batteries. Here's another option.

I've even noticed that Duracell is marketing their own low self-discharge rechargeable batteries. I have yet to use a set, but I wouldn't have any reason not to trust those as much as the Rayovac or Sanyo branded batteries.

I am VERY impressed with the Sanyo Eneloops series of batteries....it's about all I use in my headsets, cameras, handheld radios and GPS.....very long life and a flat discharge curve.
