Front and rear axle replacements

Well im leaking grease out my cv boot. From what i can see it is quite common. They quoted me about 500 to do the work. Is that reasonable?

I know the independent front suspension is quite involved so i know me and my dad cant do the work in a weekend but it is something im looking to get done as soon as possible.

Also my rear bearings are going out. (already broke the right oil seal -replaced)

What would you guys recomend for the bearings? getting them from toyota or aftermarket ones?

I will most likely having the dealer press them on the axle shaft due to the stories i have read about how people have destroyed them lol....

$500 :Wow1:

Doesn't sound near reasonable to me. It's not hard to work on, and you better know how to change CV's if you break one on a trail. Takes me 30 mins to change from start to finish. If you're just replacing the boots, it will take a bit more time (say about 1hr for each), but is by no means difficult.

For the bearings, go with Toyota parts only, and have a machine shop press them on for you. $0.02

Sounds very familiar... PS inner boot is puking grease now. It happens too often for my taste; at least twice a year.

Not a reasonable price at all. You could do this with perhaps a few additional tools.

OEM bearings.

I decided to pull the trigger on a SAS that I've been collecting parts for, late OCT NOV timeframe. Just isn't fun changing CV's anymore and really is the weak-link in my truck.

WOW $500 smackers? rip off, i know my 92 pickup isn't quite the same thing as a taco but i paid $90 dollars for a pair of new cv axle's with full warranty and changed them out in little over 2 hours. I say learn to do it your self, you won't regret it!

I can R&R a CV axle in under 30 minutes on my truck, in the field. You can get reman'd CV axles from most parts stores for around $75, give or take. I did change the drive flange studs to bolts on my front diff to make it easier, but even the 'proper' way is a couple of hours tops. Good learning experience, gets you familiar with how your truck goes together.

Thank you all for the responses i will look into it for doing it my self..

they said it would take them about 3.5 hours to do this so that was the labor price. but not sure what all they are replaceing...

i just know the boot is leaking
