well the time has come for me to start my front bumper buildup. My friend is building this bumper for me. It has a 1/4 thick steel winch plate with the 3/16 channel steel that will be welded in with a 3/16 plate making it completely boxed also the fender protection is welded to the 3/16 channel steel. The fender protection is made of 2x3 1/4 thickness rectangle tubing.

The mounting brackets are 12 guage steel and will be completely boxed as well using grade 8 bolts.

heres a few pictures of the start up.

bumper should be completed by thursday.

C'mon now Jarrell; don't you think it's time to show this thing off using a real camera?

Are you still using wood for your rear bumper?

Just wondering.

As a matter of fact I am. It was originally built as a mockup for a steel bumper, but has proved to be so durable that I just give it a new coat of paint every so often:

Plus it's so solid that those plastic corner pieces below the tail lights no longer get pinched off. The trailer hitch receiver (without the ball) gives me a bit more sliding through the deep wash ability - - -

It's pretty hard to beat three pieces of douglas fir 2x4 bolted together for strength. I every so often think about building a more elegent one (still out of wood), but then think, "Why mess with success?"
