1995 4WD Quigley Custom Chevrolet “ASSTRO” Van
1995 Chevrolet Quigley Custom True 4WD ASSTRO Van. 4.3 V6 Engine, 4L60E Automatic Transmission, Manual Chevrolet 1 Ton Borg Warner “Prototype” Hi/Lo Transfer Case, Dana 44 Axles Front and Rear. ARB Air Locker In Front Axle, Mechanical Locker In Rear Axle, 4.88 Gears, Front & Rear Reinforced Differential Covers, Full Manual Lock Front Hubs, 35 Inch Tires, Full Leaf Spring Front & Rear Suspension Conversion, Full Crossover Steering System, Factory Air Conditioning, Power Steering, 4 Wheel Power Disc Brakes, Tilt Steering, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Cruise Control, Rear “Dutch” Doors, Factory Bucket Seats, Rear Window Wiper, Rear Window Defogger, Roof Rack, Tinted Windows, Rear Bench Seat, Curbside Sliding Door, Front Winch Mount and more!
This original AWD ASSTRO van was purchased new by members of the Quigley 4WD Van family and driven as a family van. In the early 2000’s this van was no longer a daily driver. Mr. Bruce Mcclane along with several of the Quigley engineers took the van into the Quigley Motor Company shop and built this van after hours like they wanted to build a 4WD ASSTRO van not like GM told them to build one. This van is set up for everything from wheeling in Moab Utah, Baja, Colorado or rock climbing out East! This van has been all the trails in Moab, Colorado and across the country and in magazine articles. Due to the unforeseen sudden death of the Mr. Mcclane I purchased this van from the Mcclane family a little over a year ago.
The vans 4.3 Liter V6 Fuel Injected engine runs excellent. The 4L60E automatic transmission has been completely rebuilt by Bowman Transmissions in Franklin TN including a new torque converter. All the mechanicals are complete on the van. The 35 inch tall tires are old and in fair condition at best. The exhaust is complete along with the complete front and rear suspension. The ARB front air locker compression and system are complete. The windows, locks, gauges and other items work properly. The front Dana 44 axle has 4 new Mevotech TTX Extreme Duty Lifetime Ball joints installed. The Dana 44 axles front and rear have reinforced differential covers along with FULL CROSS OVER STEERING in the front. The electric fuel pump is new, new battery, differential and transfer case fluids have been changed, cooling system flushed with new coolant, the front Mile Maker lock out hubs have been serviced, front wheels bearing serviced, new air filter and more. This van has been upgraded to 4 wheel disc brakes. The brakes are fair at best. The exhaust is complete including the catalytic converter.
The exterior of the van is mostly original white paint. The paint is not perfect however the paint shine’s nicely and looks good on the sides and front of the van. The paint on the roof is in poor condition. Where there are chips in the paint the paint has been touched up all around. There is one exterior body rust spot on the right rear wheel well as shown in the pictures. Under the urethane front bumper cover is a winch mount capable of mounting a 12K pound winch. The sliding door, front doors and rear Dutch doors open work properly. All the glass is good except the front windshield which is cracked and should be replaced. It is the original windshield.
The underside of the van is in nice condition. The rockers panels are solid along with nice floorboards, frame rails and front subframe. This van is setup with a full front and rear leaf spring suspension system with very tall ground clearances. All the bushings in the front and rear leaf springs are in good condition. The shock absorbers are old Skyjacker shocks that should be replaced along with the old front steering stabilizer. There is a substantial skid plate mounted under the Borg Warner 1 ton “Prototype” transfer case. The driveshafts are in excellent condition having been serviced by Clinard’s Driveshaft in Nashville TN.
The van drives decent given the condition of the old Hankook tires. The 35x12.5x15 tires are OLD, weather cracked and should be replaced for safe street driving of this van. I suggest trailering the van rather than driving the van home after purchase if you live a long way from Nashville TN due to the age and condition of tires. A nice full size 35x12.5x15 spare tire is included with the van.
The interior is original and in good condition. The dash is complete with all dash gauges working properly. The ARB Air locker controls are complete and mounted on the dash. The power windows power and locks work properly. The transfer case shifter is a manual shifter and works properly. The drivers and passenger cloth front seats are in nice condition. The front door panels are in nice condition. The front drivers compartment carpet is complete dirty and could stand a good cleaning. The rear cargo area has a full rubber mat cover with thick padding underneath the cover. All the rear glass is tinted and in good condition. There are two (2) removable rear bench seats is included. One is the factory middle bench seat and the other is the rear bench seat. This van has a rear heater. This van will make nice/capable Expedition Type 4WD van with a little more work.
IF you are looking for a Neat 4WD Van with a great ownership, build history and has been featured in numerous 4WD magazines over the years you have found your van!
