FS: 2002 VW Jetta TDI 5 spd. CA car. Not exactly overland ready...

2002 VW Jetta TDI, 215k, 5 spd (converted from auto at 160k), white/tan cloth, two-owner car; bought from the original owner. Sunroof. T-belts done at 100k and 200k--the first one by me and the second by Matt Phelan. Matt also did the 5-spd. conversion. As it is a converted automatic car, it has the 11mm pump. I can get 50mpg; my wife is not as frugal. Nonetheless, we have averaged more than 48mpg. See Fuelly banner below. My last fill-up was 52. Also had the pump rebuilt at 140k after seals failed due to biodiesel usage. Rebuilt at PDX DFIS.

10k oil changes with Rotella synthetic. Michelin Energy Saver A/S (195/65-15) with about 20k on them. I think the tires added 3 mpg. Four alloy wheels have zero curb rash. Body has a few minor issues, but no dents or scratches in the sheet metal. Front bumper cover was scratched in a parking lot mishap and does not align perfectly. You can see in the pics that the nose is currently bug-covered and there are some stone chips but ZERO RUST. Always lived in central CA. Never seen snow or salt.
Aftermarket Sony stereo with BT--Monsoon head unit crapped out about a year ago. Interior is pretty clean with no rips tears in the upholstery. Carpet is dirty. Has black VW winter mats.

The car is not perfect. Could probably use shocks and struts. Upper strut bearings creek. Still handles well, but suspension is a little tired. Have spare intake and EGR. Both could use cleaning right now. The spares makes it an easier job.
Also have a spare steering wheel and aftermarket dog bone. Probably have a spare oil and fuel filter. I have Thule roof rack and would consider including with full-price offer.

$4,900/offer. Car is in Arroyo Grande, CA. Can deliver to Fresno, where I work three days a week. Easy fly/drive. Great time of year to see CA and drive the PCH in a new-to-you TDI.

This car is one of the good ones. Clean, straight, never abused. Never let us down.

There is some build up of carbon in the EGR that can make it stick. I have a pretty clean used one. I'd just swap it out. The intake can get gunked up, too. I would take the spare to have it dunked and then swap it out.

BTW, the miles will be right around 213,700 at the end of this week. The next oil change is due at 215k.

Thanks,
Bill

Cool so we can make ads here for regular cars as well? I guess I'll skip Craigslist next time.
Actually, since you're being a ********, most normal people would not prefer to drive a highly modified vehicle for their work commute. I have a 50-mile one-way drive. I currently ride a bus instead of driving my 17mpg Tacoma. So yes, as an expedition portal user, this Jetta has practical value on this site for me. Also, I'd probably drive the Jetta to Baja more than you.
Your snarky comment is unwarranted.

Rethinking this a little bit. I'd probably replace the EGR with the newer one (which is five bolts and a vacuum line) and check the intake while I was there. It may not be too gunked up. If it is, swap it out for the clean one. Intake is a little more complicated, and includes a coolant pipe (if memory serves, which it often does not).

I have sold a few vehicles on ExPo. Much better audience, but less likely to find the right person for a car like this. I also have it on Adventure Rider, TDI Club, and Craigslist.

We advertise our rental properties on Craigslist and get responses from all sorts of trolls. I cannot repeat some of the things that perfect strangers have said about me because I manage rentals. So, it would be great to be able to skip CL. Ahhh, the beauty of the internet.

I am bumping this and lowering the price to $4,500 and including the Thule rack. Car is at 216k miles now. Would love to sell before mid-January. Not in a rush. Just hoping for the right person. Would consider trading the Jetta TDI toward a '07-'08 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel.

Thanks,
Bill

Posting rules:
Valid for sale posts by forum members:
1. Must be expedition related, or equipment used in support of an expedition or adventure (for example, the advertising on land for sale would not be appropriate, but a kayak would be; firearms, ammunition or weapons are not permitted)

Vince has a real point, snarky or not. If this is "expedition related" then just about ANY car can be justified as expedition related. What if everyone decided to post cars like this? Fair to the people posting "real" expedition related vehicles? IMO, No. Had everyone with a car like this decided to post here, I doubt I have found the Jeep as it would have been buried too deep.

I just sold a cherry 2001 5spd loaded leather 1.8t original owner all records 84,000 original miles for $4200. TB and major service dealer done at 70k. Id say your price is optimistic at best. Just saying.

You are misquoting the rules. These are the For Sale Section Guidelines:
Items and vehicles should be at least loosely associated with adventure travel.
No firearms, firearm parts, or ammunition are to be listed for sale.
No harassment: an item is worth what someone else will pay for it. To dump on someone's For Sale thread because you think the price is too high is inappropriate. Be respectful of the fact that someone is trying to sell an item or vehicle. We will delete all posts that only serve to disparage the item.

This For Sale post is "at least loosely associated with adventure travel" as I will be buying a Jeep with the proceeds. Mods, if you disagree with me, please feel free to nuke this.

No, not misquoting anything. Look at the sticky at the top of this "Vehicles for sale by ExPo" section: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/75-Forum-Rules-READ-BEFORE-POSTING.

What I quoted was the first "rule" of 7.
"1. Must be expedition related, or equipment used in support of an expedition or adventure (for example, the advertising on land for sale would not be appropriate, but a kayak would be; firearms, ammunition or weapons are not permitted)
2. Must include the physical location of the item, for example: Casa Grande, Arizona, USA
3. Must include a complete description of the item, including the asking price
4. Must include any known defects or concerns on the items (this is a critical point, as you are selling an item to someone who will likely use it in a remote location, and their safety may depend on it)
5. Negotiations and personal information should be exchanged via email or PM, not in the thread
6. Please clearly mark the thread as "SOLD" in the title and/or the first post once the item(s) have sold
7. Want to Buy (aka WTB) ads are also acceptable"

As you said, Mods can disagree or not, but IMO, this listing, especially if everyone used your line of reasoning, waters down this section.
