Built this for mild overlanding and have owned and adventured in for the last 8 years or so. Family is growing so need to go bigger. It has been one of the best rigs we've ever owned.
It's a pretty standard Montero, the custom drawer, water storage/pump, electrical system in the back is what makes it a little different:
- Bolts into the back using the factory tie down mounting points (4)
- 2 drawers, using (3 sets) 28" Ryadon 3600 500lb lock-in/lock-out sliders (double slider on the right for extra table area)
- Victron DC-DC charger (9a) installed where factory 3rd row 12v socket is, charges aux battery when key is on.
- 30ah LifePo4 battery for powering fridge (prewired for ARB/etc), water pump, usb charger etc.
- 13.2 gallon (50l) water tank, pump and sprayer fits perfectly between rear seat and drawer system (wedge shaped)
- 3/4 (18mm) and 1/2 (12mm) baltic birch construction, t-nuts for tie downs, etc
- Allows access to "sub-trunk" area where 3rd row would normally be stored
- Blue Seas duplex marine wire, nylon protective sheathing and aux fuse box for each circuit (fridge, pump, usb charger) with space for expansion.
As far as the truck itself goes:
180k miles
Everything works
Giant tilt/slide sunroof
Dual A/C (front/back)
Heated front seats
New rear pads/rotors in last 1,000 miles, regular oil changes, new battery
Cons
- Previous owner must have had front passenger door repainted at some point and the paint is failing badly. Used doors are pretty easy to find/get and should match.
- Rear driver door has a decent dent in it where a log round bounced into it (fell off an oncoming trailer), door/window still functions normally.
- Front driver seat stitching has split in the seat bottom, heated seat still works. If I were keeping I'd probably pull the seat and have a local shop recover, or just throw a seat cover on there.
- Tires still have some meat, but have a steering wheel vibration at 60-65mph that showed up when I mounted these tires (new). Had them rebalanced which helped a little (quite a few miles ago), was planning to dig into it when I mount the next set of tires if it is still present afterwards.
Current CA smog (< 90 days) and clean title in hand.
Looking to get $4200 OBO, located near Redding, CA.
