I've ridden everything from dirtbikes to cruisers, and was very excited to move into adventure sports. Dreams of travelling two up to remote backcountry with the wife aboard a two-wheeled SUV.
Unfortunately, much like the drivers of the four-wheeled SUV's, those dreams were to never come to fruition.
My riding, realistically, consists of a small-town commute, weekend joyrides, and short [< 200 mile] daytrips. This is not the bike for that. I need something smaller, lighter, more nimble, better on fuel, and more.... fun.
That being said, I love this bike for what it is. It is unique, has character, and I've yet to see another one irl. It's comfortable, has a nice powerband, handles and rides great for what it is. Would probably be a great tourer/adventure bike, for you great-than-me types that actually do it...
The Nitty-Gritty:
2003 Aprilia Caponord.
Third Owner, first came from Portland, OR area, I bought it from a gentleman out of Boise, ID. Located now in SW Washington state. I purchased it in April of 2011, with about 15k on it. I've only put about 1k on since then (see above) [update with actual mileage asap]
Clean title, no lien.
Has the common Capo problem areas fixed:
- Replaced plastic fuel fittings
- Replaced brown connectors
- Added voltmeter
Comes with Aprilia hard bags, and Givi top case.
Michelin Anakees with <2000 on them, but there is a plug in the rear from a screw hole. Holds air fine.
Bike has been down twice. First was low-speed, low-side by previous owner. Fully repaired, only cosmetic damage. Second was me trying to be adventurous and toppling over on a fire road. few little scuffs, nothing structural. I can get better pictures of this later.
I hated the sound [lack thereof] of the bike stock. Found a set of Ducati 998 pipes, retrofitted them on. Looks great, sounds better. I do need to finish the mounting tabs, as currently they are held on the upper mounts by zipties. Also, the mounting brackets for the sidebags need to be cut and expanded by about 1". No big deal, and I may fix both of these before sale. Plenty ridable as is.
I also cut off the faded, ugly rear fender thing.

I like naked bikes that handle well, are comfortable, and good looking. I had a highly modified Speed Triple before this. I loved it, but I don't need that much engine. I also have a bit of a hankering to start a project and make something my own...
Needs to still be somewhat comfortable two-up.
