I have no idea what in the world I did to make this thing hate me, but it does. I went to use it the other day, and I can't change ANYTHING. Take that back, I can change volume and squelch. I can not change any settings, frequency, etc. I can access the settings menu, but I can't enter or change any of the settings. It was stuck on a weather channel, so I did the reset (hold MHz (PRI) button when turning on), selected complete reset, and when it came back on it was on 430MHz (so it did reset) but I still can’t change ANYTHING. I can still access the settings menu, but I can't access any anything in there, change freq. etc.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Make sure that the key lock option is off. The manual should tell you how to unlock the key lock option. If you don't have the manual you can download it from the yaesu web site www.yaesu.com Hope this helps.

You talking about the one on the mic? That one is off, and I can't change anything with either the handset or the face plate.

Clark,

Does this work?

To lock out some or all of the keys:
1. Press and hold in the [BAND(SET)] key for 1/2 second to enter the Set (Menu) mode.
2. Rotate the DIAL knob to select Menu #21 (LOCK).
3. Press the [BAND(SET)] key momentarily, then rotate
the DIAL knob to choose between one of the locking
schemes as outline above.
4. When you have made your selection, press the
[BAND(SET)] key momentarily to save the new setting,
then press and hold in the [BAND(SET)] key for
1/2 second to exit to normal operation.
5. To unlock the panel switches and DIAL knobs, select
“LK OFF” in step 3 above.

That is exactly what I thought was wrong, but I can't even get that far. I can enter the Set (Menu) mode, but once there, I can not change anything. Pushing [Band(Set)] momentarily does nothing on #21 or any other option. The only functions I can perform are to change the Vol/Sql, and enter the Set mode. I can also enter the reset mode on start up, but that didn't fix anything.

So I'm guessing this didn't work either...

1. Turn the radio off.
2. Press and hold in the [MHz(PRI)] key while turning the radio on.
3. Rotate the DIAL knob to select the resetting menu:
F-1 SETRST: Resets the Set (Menu) mode settings to their factory defaults.
F-2 HYPRST: Clears the Hyper Memory settings to factory defaults.
F-3 MEMRST: Clears the Regular Memory settings to factory defaults.
F-4 MB RST: Clears the Memory Bank Assignment.
F-5 ALLRST: Clears all memories and other settings to factory defaults.
4. Press and hold in the [BAND(SET)] key for 1/2 second to complete the reset procedure,
once you have made your selection in step 3.

There is a hard reset feature but I don't know how to do it. It is a button combination while connecting the unit to power. Completely wipes the memory though.

Otherwise I don't have any more ideas - sounds like you've tried most of the basics. Off to a radio shop. Sorry :(

Well, I finally got through to the Yaesu tech services guys, they had me do everything they could think of, and nothing worked, so it's off to the factory tomorrow so they can repair it. I'm really curious what it is I did to that thing though!
