Fuel Tank interchangeability in Gen 1 SWB Montero/Raider

As I go through the process of swapping my 4G54B for a 4G64 I've started planning for all of the associated requirements to support the engine. Obviously the newer engine is fuel injected and will require an electric fuel pump which made me wonder about using a raider v6 setup. Does anyone know if the fuel tanks between the 4 cylinder and the v6 trucks are interchangeable? I think swapping tanks, with an in-tank pump, would be the cleaner, more elegant solution for the upgraded engine and, if I'm reading everything correctly, I'd gain about 4 gallons of fuel capacity too.

Has anyone ever done this before?

Not easily. It's a lot bigger. The rear crossmember is different and it's wider also I believe. Most people usually mount a fuel pump on the frame. But it's always noisy the ones I've seen.

Thanks. I can't seem to find a good pic anywhere. The higher capacity tells me it should be bigger but i just wasn't sure where the extra size went. With all the work I'm already doing I don't think I have the appetite to modify the back end to fit a the v6 tank so I guess I'll just go with the one I got and will mount up the fuel pump externally.

FYI, the Raider's HP fuel pump
I thought fuel pumps require immersion for cooling?

nope, only ones MADE for immersion. For instance, the car in my avatar (a 220hp e30 competition rally car) still uses the stock Bosch fuel pump, which is mounted in front of the rear wheel behind the rocker panel. It has a low-pressure in-tank "lifter" pump to prime the high-pressure pump outside.

likewise, my Porsche has a bottom-exit hose from the fuel tank that goes to an external HP pump (no "lifter pump" since the fuel feed is at the bottom of the tank).
