Van was purchased brand new in June 2024, with every option you can get on a Sprinter van. Our build was designed for full time, extensive off grid exploration in mind, but also we wanted it to feel like a home and not just a van. A fridge/freezer, with enough storage to hold food for weeks, enough water to not have to feel like we had to limit water usage, and enough power and charging options to be able to stay off grid until we ran out of food. This van checks all the boxes. I spent almost a year doing research on van builds. Issues other people have had with theirs, things they wished they did differently or things they wished they didn’t do at all. After extensive debating we came up with our build, completed by Eric Johnson out of Bend Oregon, Koto Van Design. The build took about 4 months to complete. We wanted a van that required minimal maintenance, ease of use and less worries. No outside lines or ports, everything is inside the van. This eliminates the worry of lines freezing in cold weather, or tampering from the outside. Up north or down south this van is designed for any weather or climate you take it to.
Interior
10KWH EcoFlow Power System - more than enough power to run the everything in the van and the Nomadic 48V A/C on those warm days. Peace of mind if leaving pets in the van for hours at a time to go on a nice hike.
Eco Flow system is charged with 4 different methods, system can be plugged in to a 30Amp or below outlet. Charges with 400 watts of roof rack mounted solar, as well as when the vehicle is running.
36 Gallon Fresh Water Tank - I wanted the fill port inside the van to eliminate freezing or tampering. The tank can be filled from the port rear of the van or if you find yourself in Baja or anywhere down south, the tank has an accessible lid inside the van to use a 5 Gal filtered water jug for your fill up. Just attach a funnel and hose, drop it in the tank and fill it up.
Outdoor shower - After extensive research and discussion I learned indoor showers have a tendency to hold water and you don’t want that inside your van. Indoor showers take up useable space and are usually so narrow you can’t do anything in it anyways. Talking with several folks that have an indoor shower said they never use it. So we opted for a rear door van shower with hot and cold water.
4 Gallon Isotemp Hot Water Tank - we placed it on a timed switch so no excess power drawer, and it will hold hot water for 24 hours.
10 Gallon Grey Water Tank - This is the only external line on the van, we built in a grey tank heater to keep it from freezing when in cold weather. We placed this tank on an electronic valve switch for ease of dumping it.
16” Sink with water filter - this allows for full size pots and pans and dishes. We like to cook full meals and didn’t want to be forced to use small camp size pots or dishes by the sink size.
Isotherm 130 Drawer Style fridge with Freezer - 4.6 Cu Ft - this is placed into the galley and we wanted the galley by the slider door to allow getting into the fridge without having to get into the van every time. With the slider door open we can just open the bug screen, open the fridge and grab a snack or drink.
2 Burner Induction Stove - with a built in hideaway cabinet above Fridge. This free’s up counter space when not in use.
MaxxAir Fan Deluxe w/remote - this is a must as it increases air flow throughout the van. Fan has exhaust or intake mode.
Espar Diesel Heater / wall mounted thermostat - this has been amazing on the cold nights we spent in the van.
2Tec2 Infinite Moonless Night Flooring - It looks amazing, it’s water proof, easy to clean, and comfortable to walk around on.
Flatline Van Co Overhead Shelf w/ TheWanderful Shelf Zipper Cover - this is large enough to hold all of the clothing we bring and allows us to stay organized. The zipper cover keeps it looking clean and gives additional pockets for those smaller items.
King Bed - Zinus 6” Memory Foam Mattress - above head flex dimmable reading lights with USB x 2 - the one thing you do everyday in the van when traveling is sleep in it. We wanted a big bed.
Van Speed flares - this allows me at 6’1” to sleep comfortably east to west.
Recess puck lights and light rails throughout interior - dimming switch controlled
Flatline Van Co Step Extention - extra room for those camp shoes
Van Essentials - Sliding/Rear Door Bug Screens, full van insulated/blackout window covers, and rear door storage pockets
Artic Tern Bench Window w/Bugscreen and blackout shade - this is our favorite window. Positioned behind the sitting bench.
Cabinets and drawers - Premcore, all soft close with Fenix HPL finish, this material reduces the weight and the Fenix finish is basically self healing. No scratches, super easy to clean and looks amazing.
Sitting bench- custom cushions with built in storage - 19Hx40Wx18D

The suspension alone is worth well over 10K installed at a dealer. I wanted to be able to explore off-road places and still be able to drive 75 on the highway. This kit provides an extremely comfortable ride at highway speeds. No sketchy body roll around corners, and completely adjustable to fit the way you like your ride to be. Performs great on the less traveled roads, FSR or off grid exploration. This kit is not a lift kit, and maintains factory geometry and ride height. This has significantly improved the drivability of our van. Built vans are heavy, our van is below GVWR with a full 36 gallons of water, but was still sketchy on curves and rocked horribly on uneven roads, but not anymore with this suspension system. Paired with this wheel and tire set up you have plenty of clearance and capability for off-road exploration as well as on road comfort and response.
Van Compass Falcon 3.3 Adjustable Inverted Rally Struts - $2180
Van Compass 4.3 Suspension System / Falcon 3.3 Adjustable Rear Shocks, monotube front shocks, add-a-leaf pack / mid-heavy - $3500
Van Compass Upper Shock Baja Brackets - $360 - eliminates Sprinter van shock weak point
Van Compass Lower Shock HD Baja Brackets - $385 - built in skid to protect lower shock bracket and bolt when off road
Van Compass Rear High Performance Bumpstops - $520 - Allow more shock travel and better dampening compared to stock bumpstops.
Van Compass Front Jounce Bump Buddies with reinforcement Bracket- $370
Van Compass SwayBar Disconnect - $260 - Allows up to an additional 3” of front suspension travel for those wash board roads
General Tire - 285/70/17 A/TX Grabbers
Reika - 17X8 R35V Rambler Wheels
Flatline Van Co - Safari Rack, Side Steps, Rear Door Storage Box, SpareTire Mount with Ladder
Star Link Mini - on/off switch on EcoFlow, internet anywhere and everywhere we have been
Porch lights - Driver/Passenger
Not a single corner was cut on this buildout. We planned on traveling full time in this beauty but life happens. We have to move back to the Midwest and we have to sell the van. If interested please reach out, I can do video call van tours if needed and can answer any questions you may have.
