1998 Mitsubishi Montero - Fully Loaded - 155k miles

V6 3.5L - Averages 16 mpg
4 Wheel Drive
4 Speed Automatic transmission

This is a Montero. None of that "Montero Sport" crap. This thing is a fully loaded mountain goat of a vehicle. It can handle itself off-road better than a Land Cruiser. This Montero has the full off-road package: locking rear differential, locking center differential, on-the-fly 4-wheel drive, and full skid plates down the underside of the car. Fording rivers isn't a concern with the full stainless steel exhaust. But it does just as well on the city streets too, thanks to its adjustable suspension. You can adjust the stiffness of the shocks at any point to cruise in comfort regardless of the road conditions.

It will also make you look better. You would not believe the number of chicks I've picked up in this thing over the last 10 years. My wife, my daughters, their friends, heck, I've even picked up dudes. (like my friend Chad.) It's easy with the THIRD ROW SEATS! You can cruise around with 7 people up in that thing, all safely buckled in too. Perfect for people who actually have friends or for the safety conscious coyote.

Worried about the summer heat and sweating crevices? Don't be. I just had the air conditioning revamped and recharged, so it's ice cold like your mother's black heart. And your covered come the winter months too, with the cold weather package of freedom! Heated leather seats keep your tiddly bits warm, heated mirrors ensure proper visibility, and you never again have to look like a complete idiot on the side of the road scraping ice off of your headlights, because this thing has headlight defrosters! You'll never go back to having those lame non-defrosting headlights again after living in this kind of luxury. What are you, a neandertal?

If it's so awesome then why am I selling it? Because I bought a newer Montero. My kids demanded the rear air conditioning which is this Montero's only weakness. And quite frankly, that was emasculating. Hopefully you are a stronger person than I and are better able to cope with this shortcoming.

I know what you're thinking...

"This car will make me a better person, right?" Yes it will.

"It's going to set me back a fortune, right?" Possibly.

NADA Value "Clean Retail" is $4,575
Kelly Blue Book "Fair" pricing is $3,768

You can have this for $3,000. No "or best offer" none-sense. I'm not a swap meet. You either like the price or you don't. I'm selling it for less than low-blue value because it does need some maintenance done in the coming year. If you pay a mechanic to do all of the work, then your right back up to the NADA value. BUT, if you are handy or have a relative who is, then you can do most of the work yourself and make out way ahead. Given a little bit of attention these cars run for 250k miles.

But first, the PROS...

Newly repaired and recharged air conditioning
Air Bags, ABS Brakes, Disc brakes all around
Cruise control
Power seats, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power power
Remote entry with 2 key fobs
On-the-fly suspension adjustment
Leather seats
Adjustable leather steering wheel
Heated seats
Heated mirrors
Headlight defrosters
Foglights
Giant sun roof
Infinity sound system
CD, MP3 player, with front USB, Aux In, iPod control
Skid plates
Locking rear differential
Locking center differential
On-the-fly four wheel drive
Stainless steel exhaust
Tow package
Runner boards, mud flaps, full exterior package
Third row jump seats
Roof Rack

And now the CONS...

Rear passenger rotor needs replacing. I had a defective break-pad shear off, it gouged up the rotor a bit. I put new pads on the rear a few weeks ago and they work great, but in the long run you would want to have the rotor turned or replaced to keep the pads lasting longer.

Front driver side upper control arm needs replacing at some point.

Valve seats need replacing - the car passes emission testing with flying colors, but it will burn oil when left to idle because of the valve seats. You can drive it like this indefinitely if you are ok with topping off the oil between changes.

Also he probably meant to write "Valve Guide Seals" and not Seats... but you should ask & confirm if you're interested in it.

I do like these straight forward type of deals better than the negotiation kind.

Came across it in my weekly search, I'm holding out for a 1996 SR.
