Fuso FM260 Performance

I have posted two threads previously about chips on a Fuso FM260. This was because I subjectively felt that we were not getting the requisite amount of power — esp noticeable when pulling hills.

I initiated contact with the Fuso Service Center in Portland, OR, and got a VERY HELPFUL response. The Service Mgr, Darren, initially spent 3 hrs with me and his laptop with proprietary software. We drove highways and hills and determined that my turbo boost fell 5-6 pounds short of factory specs.

Over the next several weeks, he and the regional service manager checked out everything on the engine affecting boost, and finally replaced the turbo. This brought me up 2# of boost, which has made a noticeable improvement in my hill climbing performance.

Given the improvement I can feel from only 2#, I admit that I wish that we had gotten the full 5-6 pound increase defined in the spec sheets. On the other hand, it is very instructive to see how much difference only 2# makes, and I am confident that the factory guys have done literally everything that can be done to get my individual engine as close to nominal as possible. There is variability after all. And after 20,000 miles it's nice to know that everything has been so fully checked out.

You should give chipit.com.au a call they have a chip will not only controls fuel but also turbo boost pressure,I spoke to the company last week and they seem very switched on with diesel performance tuning, so much so we are a dealer for them now.

Hey, John,

As another thought . . . you may have heard me speak of John Bendit who runs Upscale Automotive, the people who look after my Sprinter and who fabbed the XV-JPs roof, among other things. John sold me a Diesel Power tuning module that made a big difference in my Sprinter's performance, and I know that he also sells modules for the usual suspects like the Duramax, et al. There's some modest chance that he be able to provide something that would help the FM.

The big advantage to the these modules is that they simply plug into the engine's fuel rail pressure sensor and are easily removed. Much better than the other common Sprinter technique of reprogramming the actual computer. Thus, if it doesn't work right, no issues.

It's a long shot, but might be worth a call.
