Garmin 76Csx GPS & Laptop?

Hi folks,

I have a Garmin 660 (for the road) and a 76Csx (canoe/camping). The 660 doesn't do topo, and the 76Csx is a little (very) small for the road. So, I was looking at an 8" or even 10" Lowrence GPS, but I already have quite a bit invested in the Garmin stuff... I was wondering, is there I way I can use a laptop with the 76Csx? I have a nice little Thinkpad X41 that could do the job...

Thanks,
js.

That should allow you to connect it to your laptop. Whatever software you use needs to support the 76 as well, but I would imagine they all do.

Thanks for your reply Shane. I'm using Garmin's Map Source, which I can use to download maps onto the 76Csx, but cannot use it interactively on the laptop (to view my current position, track, etc.). So it sounds like I need another application? What do people use on their laptops for off-road expedition style use?

Thanks,
js.

I'm afraid this is not going to make you happy- I have two Garmin units, and a MyGig (awful) in our vehicles; I have both WIntel and Mac laptops.

Having used as far as I can tell ALL the available software for both platforms, I now only use MacGPSPro on the Mac platform. It does not use Garmn software or maps; but that is a major plus in my mind despite the "extra" cost. The overall Mac software is $60, and the topos for each state in its entirety are about $39 each. It is a seamless and robust combination. Neither OZI nor Fugawi come even close to matching MacGPSPro in capability nor robustness - we have used the latter in the most rugged and isolated places you can imagine.
