According to Garmin, 3 lines of GPSs now support your own raster (image) maps. This means on their Oregon, Colorado, and Dakota series you can add your own topo map, aerial imagery, or hand drawn map or whatever you want.

The developer of GlobalMapper has already added support for these devices.
Basically you just take your jpg and load it into google earth, position it, and load it onto the gps.
