Gear review - Q89 dual piston compressor $150

After reading SocalFJ's issues with the Quickair 3, I thought I'd do a test with the Q89 from Costco for $150 since it's basically a knockoff of the Quickair.

I aired all four tires down to 20lbs and reinflated to 47lbs. These are BFG AT 315/75/16 - pretty big tires so it takes a lot of air. Test was done with air temps around 83 and cold tires.

The first 2 tires took 4:15 and the third took about 4:30 and the 4th 4:45. I thought it was interesting that performance slowed a bit.

Last time I used the compressor it shut of just into the 4th tires. This time I ran my small 12v fan over it and it worked great. It's mounted in the rear quarter panel so it doesn't receive much airflow which is why I think it shut off last time.

Overall, I'm very impressed with the compressor - though a word of warning: the hose fittings are not standard so if a hose fails, finding a replacement might cause a big headche. I plan to swap it all out for more standard fittings.

Costco also sells for $50 the single piston one that I know a lot of people use. I'd be curious to know how two of those would perform in comparison.

:arabia: I've got the Q89, got it about 2 years ago and I keep it in it's Black nylon case, at the back of my trailer

I've only used it on the ground and exposed to breezes, it's worked SUPER

Also used it once on my air tents, but WAY to fast

I would be disappointed and cautious on any compressor that cut out after 20 mins. I have ran the smaller one from Costco for ~45mins non stop without cutting out. Does the manufacture claim a duty cycle? Could it be defective? What was the testing altitude?
Good thing you purchased it at Costco if it does not work out.

I agree. I think mine was defective and I ordered a new one which just arrived today. I will return the other one - exactly why I bought it from Costco.

I am also considering this compressor I had the little one and I am considering the new ARB, but for the price and quickness of this compressor I may give it a try.

Well I order the Q89 Air Compressor from Costco, I will do sme testing during the week and see how quick it can air my tires!

I am also interested in doing a permanent installation in the back of my vehicle, let's see what happens after testing!
