Gen 1 Montero Stock Radio

I recently bought a 1990 Montero LS. Great rig, i'm slowly building it out.

It has no radio, it was missing when I bought it. The opening
looks to be for a double height radio. I've been looking for a source
for a stock radio with no luck. Any good OEM sourcing for a 22 year old
radio out there?

If anyone knows of one, please let me know.

Thanks

You want to find a 21 year old radio? Only place I think you'd have luck is a dealer $$$ or the salvage yard (damaged unit likely).

They were crappy radio's to begin with. Not worth it unless you're doing a full OEM restoration.

I have one with working radio, dead CD player if you really want it. it was replaced in my truck with a modern day unit that sounds a hell of a lot better! you can mount any modern day unit in there no problem, there will however be a space left open, there are cover kits to take care of this if you don't want to see the hole. I put my CB in the space.

I've heard of some folks opening up old, dead factory radios, doing a little creative solder work, and getting iPod connectivity. It's the only reason I'm still hanging onto the 2-piece am/fm+cd out of one of my Galants. Seems to me a covert, higher end installation makes leaving the windows open when parked a little less stressful. It might be worth looking for an unloved stock unit at the local yard and hooking it up just in case.

You might also look into finding something like this on Amazon to give you a clean install of a single-DIN deck with a tidy little pocket under it for your phone or whatever.

Good luck.

You can also find DIN sized CB radios and put them in the 2nd slot.

I still have the stock radio from my 1996 Montero if you want it. I replaced it with a single DIN aftermarket one to make room below it for my HAM radio.
