in lieu of my new gen 1 purchase i'm looking at tires to replace the cracked ones that are on it. i have done some searching on here and cant really find a whole lot of info on gen 1 montero specific...so. right now i have 255/85/16 on my land cruiser and really like them the montero has a 15inch rim and being they don't make a 255 in 15 inch i'm wondering what i should go with. im think 31x10.50x15 because i feel that should be big enough for general use and good of road. i thought about 33s but it just seems like over kill and think it would make the truck pretty slow. most of the driving will be around town and highway. if anyone has any pics of the gen 1 with either of these that would be sweet. ps i'm thinking the toyo open countries.

I drove my Raider daily for almost 5 years, used as a work vehicle and had the most fun with 33x12.5 all terrains. I could almost drive hard corners like I had in my AH Sprite. I have not used 33x10.5-15 tires, but these are the near analog to your 255/85-16s. Overall, unless you're bouncing around on rocky terrain, you'll be happy with 31x10.5s.

The 31x10.5's should fit fine unless they went to a 4 or 5" wide rim... i.e. exceptionally unlikely they did that. I believe I recall some saying that some dealers sold the gen I's with 31's although I've bought them used with both 29's and 31's. HTH's.
