Gen 2.5 4wd not engaging

Hi forum

I found a few threads but wanted to pick your brains about this:

Following the excellent troubleshooting guide posted on another thread, I found a couple things unplugged, which I didn’t recognize.

The circled photo shows them re-plugged but I can’t find out where the plug goes in the second photo.

It’s above the vacuum canister for the 4wd system, but there is nothing to attach it to?

I tried moving the axle actuator, and it moves freely - although not into the axle.

Also it seems like the transfer case doesn’t engage 4hi completely. I can hear it slipping, under the car if i try to move it in 4hi, but in 4hi lock, the transfer case doesn’t grind, but still no front drive.

Any ideas? Or point me to another thread?

Thanks

Ha! Ive read that too!

The previous owner says they never used the 4wd other than when his daughter went to college, 7 years ago?

I just wanted to know where that second plug went because i sure don’t see any where to plug it in...

I’m surprised no one knows what this plug is for?

I crawled under the car again today and everything in sight is connected.

Anyone?

Regarding your tough love, uhm, all my cars have been 20+ years old...

60 series LC, 2nd gen 4runner , air cooled vws, motorcycles, and countless others over the years. I don’t mind wrenching and would rather have a car I can fix myself.

So yeah, i get what you’re saying. All i was looking for was what that loose plug was for, and you provided a great link.

Cheers
