Gen 2.5 automatic transmission filter change?

Hey all,
Forgive me if I've missed it but I searched forums and my factory service manual but I'm not finding a diy/procedure/torque specs to change the auto trans filter in my 1998 Monty. The manual doesn't seem to even list it under the maintenance schedule. I assume it does indeed have one as the WIX kit I purchased says it does indeed fit this model. I drained the fluid using the procedure outlined on 4x4 wire (neutral, remove cooler hose, start engine for 30 sec, remove drain bolt, etc.) but I don't see anything specific to the gen 2.5 regarding filter. I did remove supporting crossmember so that all pan bolts are accessible. My drain bolt says "DII" but based on most recs, I have purchased the Mitsubishi Diamond SP. Are most of you skipping the filter? My Monty has 155k miles, no service records. The fluid is brownish red, doesn't look terrible but I'm baselining all the maintenance.

Had fluid change done on mine about 2 years ago, the shop said I don't have a filter only a screen, which isn't normally changed unless there is a reason to suspect a problem.

I purchased a new filter for my 95 many years ago only to discover that it's actually just a fine metal screen. I replaced it anyway because I had it, but won't waste the money on it in the future. I think that if you really want to do something more than just a fluid change, removing and cleaning the filter will accomplish the same as replacing it.

I'm Getting Around To It
At least when you buy the Fram brand "filter," you get a pan gasket and a filter/screen gasket. So there's that.

Who wrote the 4x4Wire in-depth post about his technique for the fluid exchange? My mind wants to say Alex Kogan, but I don't know if that's right.
