It's been a while since I posted, but I thought I'd share an idea I came up with for a pretty cool smartphone mount for my 1995 SR. I've used it for over a year and it works great. What I've done is taken the plastic face plate off the dash where the radio sits, and I created a metal mount that bolts to the 2 right hand screw holes which hold the radio in. Check it out. Very simple and bombproof. There is a horizontal seam because my first iteration was at that level and I bent over the metal to mount the ball on a horizontal plane. It eventually wiggled enough that it broke off, so this is my version 2 with an L shape bracket, and another 6" taller, so the phone camera can see forward. I then trimmed a little bit of the plastic off the trim piece, and it pretty much looks stock.

Interesting, any chance of a full size tablet fitting on that thing while going on the trails, it looks like the mount that I had on an old TomTom GPS unit so it should technically hold it. I've been meaning to get one for the 2.5 once I finish with all the maintenance and wheel stuff later this Spring when the trails aren't frozen.
It's a RAM mount, so you can mount pretty much anything to it, and attached to the radio faceplate screws, it is really solid. I love the set up. An earlier iteration was lower and when I modified it, I added another 6" and now it is perfect. I have used a bigger mount to put my Ipad there and it works fine.
