Need help diagnosing weird metallic scrapping noise coming from the front passenger side on my 2002 Montero. Only happens while accelerating. Braking does not effect sound. Noise goes away when 4x4 is engaged. Runs and drives fine other than the noise, but noise seems to be getting worse.
I thought it was a faulty free wheel clutch solenoid pack (MR430381), which engages the front axle. I replaced the part but the noise persists. I'm pretty sure its has something to do with transfer case, but I could be wrong.
