It's time for some maintenance and I have a couple questions for Gen 3 guys. I have a 2001 XLS. I have put around 20K on it this last year without so much as a hiccup. Milage is currently 129K. The brake pedal has always been a little 'sticky' on the return. Finally, I was driving it recently and the pedal got stuck in the down position. I had to pull it back up to release the brakes. Wondering what the most likely culprit is.(Master, booster, something else) I don't want to start replacing parts until I hear from others who may have seen this problem.
Also, I'm going to repack the bearings and turn the rotors next week. I took the truck in for an alignment and the shop told me the bearings were too loose as well as the tie rod ends, etc. What is the best way to confirm this on my own? And also to determine if bearings need a simple clean and pack or replacement. The steering feels tight with very little play.
Last note: Just did the R10 temp gauge fix. After describing the symptom, the same shop told me I probably had a blown head gasket. With a little research I discovered the notorious R10 resistor and how to resolve the issue at home for free. Amazing how such a tiny thing can cause so much headache (and cost a fortune for some unfortunate people)
