Gen III real world MPGs?

Hello All,

Benn doing my research for what seems like years at this point, but have seen no recent posts on MPG averages for the Gen III trucks. Gas is cheap now, but we know that can change any second.

I was wondering what those of you that have Gen IIIs are getting for real world mileage? If you could please include model (XLS or Limited), engine size or year, and any mods that may have an impact on the total (lift, gearing, big tires, racks, etc.).

Thanks in advance.

2003 Limited, OME HD lift, 235/85-16 Duratracs.

About 12-13mpg with my wife driving it (95% in-town), 17-18mpg with me driving it. (60/40 highway/in-town)

Really depends on how you drive it. Stock it can get 22mpg @ 60-65 mph.

As mine sits (see build) with weighing about 6,000lbs will do 19-20mpg fully loaded on trips keeping under 65mph. In town 16-17mpg mixed driving (I'm careful on how I drive).

Tire weight, rolling resistance, width all make a difference. My wheels are about 18lbs and tires about 55lbs. So rather light compared to most.

Also, I only run premium fuel with top tier gas. These motors don't like regular. :)

Yep even with my less-than-stellar numbers, i was pleasantly surprised. The Cherokee that our Gen3 replaced got about 13-14mpg with wife driving, though it did run on the cheapest swill we could find.

The Gen3 is MUCH larger, MUCH more luxurious, and MUCH more capable. Essentially same MPG, only difference is have to pay an extra $5-$10/tank for premium. No big deal.

Difference between MY Cherokee (23-24mpg highway on 87) and MY Gen2.5 (turd) is a bit worse, but when i'm not actively traveling, i drive less than 100 miles a month, so it really doesn't matter at all.

What do you guys get on interstate, 70-80mph? I normally travel on I-70 with cruise set on 80, no matter what car I'm driving. When going to colorado, I always do slightly higher. What does the GenIII do @75mph stock or with just 275/16's and lift? I'd love to hear those numbers.

Our stock excursion v10 does about 11-12 mpg loaded up with passengers or not to colorado from kansas. Funny thing, my camaro when it was mildly modded, got 30 on the way there and 32 on the way back set at 80mph many times

Mine drinks the gas at speeds 75 and over, drops down below 15mpg especially if driving to Colorado with a headwind. I typically stay in the 15mpg range mixed driving with a lift and 265/75r16 Duratracs.

'05 235/85R16 all else stock. T6 Synth in the engine and Redline in differentials. Highway 16 to 19 - depends on driver, terrain and speed as long as a major brand fuel is used - 87 octane. Premium doesn't show any difference tried it several times - not worth the money (my area of the midwest its a 30 to 40% upcharge). You all do know that the Premium label (funny name actually - just because its got a higher octane rating doesn't mean its "better" for you car - unless you have high compression ratio etc...) is just great marketing slogans by the oil companies - you got a TIGER in your tank?
