I think theyre cool. Ford V8 with a Chrysler 4wd system (Quadratrac, I think), 18 ga steel body, Fiat military truck chassis and suspension, built by Pininfarina, no options since everything was standard, think P38 of the 80s. I wouldnt mind having one with a Dana 44 solid axle swap front and a Dana 44 rear.
It reminds me of a first-generation Caravan with a lift kit. But its still not Aztek ugly - that's a plane of hell reserved for cars like AMC Pacer and the H2.
I remember when the LaForza was profiled in Automobile Mag along with the other higher end 4x4's of the day. If I recall it did OK on their test but the RRC and FJ62 took the day. They also profiled the publishers custom 89 Suburban with lift, tires, full leather interior (even headliner), some custom bumper winch combo, lights all over and some other bits.
I know 2 customers with the laforzas. One guy owns 3. There awful to source parts for. Iveco I know is used for the brakes. Electrical issues up the wazoo!! There alright. Have the ford truck 5.0 trans I dunno. Assumed it was an aod. Ill check next time. Ive always wanted it for a sas with 1tons. I believe the body is full fiberglass too. It is just an ugly land rover with. I was told buy the guy that owns 3 the laforza was a italian military vehicle refined for the public
Jeremy Clarkson needs to get a hold of as many of those as possible... and redo the Car Darts episode... and the Kill a Toyota episode... and the one where they drop caravans on it... and something else with fire would be good too.
Friends of mine had a LaForza in the 1980s. They liked it. I never drove it, but its ride was very comfortable and well controlled over rough gravel roads.
