Getting Quotes for Powdercoating

I am getting the Rock Hard Sports cage (bolt-on roll cage) for my Wrangler JKU. It comes unfinished. Just called my first place for a powdercoat request and they pitched me $300 for black powdercoat. Does that sound about right? I was thinking more of around $150... This might be a fair price. I have no idea. Just curious.

This is the kit I'm getting - http://www.rockhard4x4.com/product_p/rh-1030-1l.htm

Seems high to me, but I'm certainly not an authority on powdercoat pricing...are they aware the kit is unassembled? They might be thinking something that takes up a lot more space in their booth.

I would keep calling, there are plenty of powdercoaters out there. Some powdercoaters do fancier work than others, so this price might not be out of line for that powdercoater but does seem high for what you need.

The local powder coat outfit around here quotes $150 for the Rockhard sport cage but charges $110 if you wait for him to do a large group of stuff in black. Other colors and a quicker turn around time will run extra.

$300 seems a bit steep, but might be the going rate in your area.

I'm a powder coater, I would have to see the cage. They may include the prep in that 300 as well

Might try calling around and doing some comparison. I know there is a powdercoat shop in Fredericksburg as well as in Newington on the east side of 95. They have a sign in those business parks you can see from 95. I can't think of either name but the Newington guys have been getting thumbs up for quality and price from the Colorado forums.
