Good Condition 97 SR with Locker at Pick-Your-Part in Stanton,CA near Knotts Berry

There is a very clean white 97 SR with Locker at Pick-Your-Part in Stanton,CA near Knotts Berry Farm. The interior is in terrific condition... At the moment. I had to pull the rear door off. Interior is blue leather.

From it I sourced some new rear door hinges for my Montero. HUGE improvement once I put them on my own rig. Now I can open the door with a mere two finger pull, and it swings closed like it was built by Germans. So happy!

Good job Nathan! How hard was it to change out the hinge?

It was a lot easier than I thought. Took about 15 minutes to get the door off, then about 30 minutes to put it on (triple checked the alignment). You don't replace the pin, the whole hinge has to be replaced, seven bolts each, pretty easily accessible. Just pop off the plastic interior trim on the inside door (from the bottom), peel back the clear diaphragm seal (just like the front doors), and the bolts are easily accessed. I used Ty's battery operated impact hammer drill and it made really short work of it.

The Service Manual shows a harness disconnect at the door, but it lies. There isn't a disconnect for the harnes, so pulling the door far enough off to clear the hinges is a bit fussy. At the junk yard we just cut the harness, but at home I ended up removing the tail light to get enough slack in the harness so I could pull the hinges off and out of the door. You also need to undo the slide lock thing (two bolts under the door), and then the limit arm (cotter pin). Pretty easy, just wrench work. I am very non mechanical, and if I can do it, anyone can.

BTW, I snagged a set of pristine white hinges as spares in case someone needs them. I had pulled them first, but then found a champaign colored Monty that matched mine, so I took both. The junkyard charged me a lot more than I figured though, so I wouldn't mind selling the white set!
