Good, secluded destination Mid California?

Hello, I want to plan a 5 day trip to a secluded location (BLM type land) and need some suggestions. I don't care to run into drug traffickers, meth heads or wierdos if at all possible. I'm not anti-social, I just like privacy when I camp. I'm located in the Bay Area and was thinking along the lines of Bishop area off Hwy 395. I purchased 3 books on "suv trails of California" and was dissapointed with 2 separate trips I took using those books. I didn't want to travel too far south. Campfires are also a must. I was thinking about May or June for the big event. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (please include details!) thanks in advance, Jason

There are some unimproved camping sites in the Santa Lucia mountains inland from Big Sur. Check out the Ventana Wilderness and Los Padres National Forest.

What about points north? The mendocino National forest has some pretty nice areas...

Also, the lost coast is nice.

How well built is your vehicle? Look into the Dusy Ershim trail on the west side of the Sierra mtns. 5 days worth of exploration, back country beauty, campfires ok. I would recommend a vehicle with at least 33's, one locker, and a good winch.
