Mark- Thanks for the advice. I may practice now and let a welding shop do harder stuff like the new tounge and spring brackets.

Jeepfreak- I thought about that but thought that welding would be strong?

Here are a few pics after I got it off the trailer and behind the Jeep.

I can see it now, White with black fenders, Spring over with matching wheels and tires.
Extended tongue, and a black cover from mytarps.com " machine cover"

I like it! Like that barn too!

what kind of welder do you have (arc/stick, mig, tig)?
I have an old stick welder my dad gave me. He gave me a few rods and a few pointers and I have played around with it and have fixed several things around the house. The thicker the metal the hotter the heat needs to be, too hot and it will melt what you are welding.
I have built a roof rack, welded a trailer hitch on our golf cart and built a little dolly for our canoe (my first project). They are all rock solid. I wouldn't weld recovery points or anything yet but I might tack up a bumper sometime and let my dad do the heavy lifting. After awhile you kind of get the hang of setting the heat.

Mark- Exactly what I was thinking. :) But playing around with the idea of a metal cover for it eventually when more money is in the bank. Thanks for the comment on the barn. My Dad built it back in the seventies. Only candy cane stripped barn on this side of the county...lol.

Navigator- We have a Miller Arc welder. Which was an awesome score too. Its a Legend model (generator/welder). Picked it up for $200 with a Miller cover. Guy said it didn't work. Took the cover plate off and some wires were loose. Plugged them in better and fired it up. Works great now. :) Can't wait to start learning. I do a lot of odd and end things and have been wanting to weld some horseshoes together to make some things for my barn so I will probably be playing with those for a while before I tackle anything too big/important.

sounds like a good start
This might be obvious but make sure to have a shield and leather up. Hot steel burning a hole in a shoe is a bad thing :)
