Goodyear Silent Armor w/Kevlar

Is anyone running these? Can you please post pics of them on your rig, and feedback on them off asphalt. They seem like a great street tire, however maybe TOO mild of an A/T for a lot of offroading/dirt/rock driving? I am interested in them because of the Kevlar feature...However, I am not able to find a concrete answer if they are kevlar SIDEWALLS like the MT/R, or if there is only kevlar belts. if its the sidewalls that would be awesome, otherwise I may just end up with MTR's

I have the original BFG KM muds right now, so really even the MTR is a less aggressive tread pattern, to me it seems to be one of the least aggressive MT's which is a bonus for me.
I'd look at the Duratracs or even some Treadwright guard dogs but the weak sidewalls worry me around sharp rocks and low tire pressure.

P.S. I did search, but all the threads I could find on these were from 2008ish, and wasn't able to tell if they were the old Silent Armors or the new ones

I run these tires. IMO they are good at everything but not really excellent at anything. I too was interested in these tires because of the kevlar side walls. The majority of my Kms come from highway moving from point A to B, then on gravel and logging roads. Not too much technical off road for me. Road noise is reasonable. I cannot stand the loud noise that comes from aggressive tread. FWIW many of the Oil Rig/Forestry Trucks sport these tires. I am considering buying another set as these ones have almost 70,000 km. Time to get rid of them before winter.

I ran a set for four years. I think mine were pre-Kevlar.

Overall they were a good on-road tire. Good road manners and in wet snow they stuck like glue while people beside me spun their wheels through every intersection.

They weren't a good winter off road tire. There was a few times I got stuck and had to be pulled in moderate snow. The tread pattern wasn't aggressive enough to dig or grab so they just sat spinning.

I found their snow/ice performance deteriorated at colder temperatures (around -0°F and below), but if your temperatures are more moderate that should be a non-issue for you since they perform awesome above 0°.

So long story short.... Great on-road tire, but I drive both on and off road so I'm switching to Duratracs.

Excellent tire for towing, onroad, and AT use. Good in winter and on ice. Rotate every 10k. They'll be wiggly until the heat cycle a few times and wear in, around 3000-5000 miles they'll stabilize. (snowflake rubber compound) Great tire offroad ans long as that road is fairly hardpacked. They don't like soggy goo. With 4wd and lockers I took them way too far offroad through some goo. With a stock truck, forget about it.

In mud, logging roads, etc. You'll need mud rated tire chains. The Firestone desination MT's are a better choice for more agressive goo.

I just got a set on my LR3. Considering the places my Rover went with bald street tires, these tires should do amazingly well.

Silent armor & MTR

I've used the Silent Armor since they came out in two (2) sizes 285/75/16 d then the e when they came out overall the Silent Armor has performed excellent in all situations. Wear can be a problem when alignment is not done right or goes out of spec., the silent armor did not require airing down as much as MTR under all conditions.

The MTR is by no means highway friendly when compared to the silent armor and actually digs into sand way too much for my liking unless aired down they performed excellent in snow, dirt and all off road aired down including rock fire roads paved w/large rocks. While the newer MTR's have improved road life they simply are not the greatest highway tire at highways speeds IMHO.

As for tire failure Silent Armor and MTR I've had instant air downs from large metal objects in roadway the rim locks kept the bead locked on to the rim helping control the vehicle better than it would if tire bead came off rim both tire come w/rim lock feature standard.

I ran a set of the silent armors for a few years. The pro grade load range e with kevlar. They were great street tires. very quiet, good in rain and probably one of the best ice/snow tires i had without being a dedicated snow tire.

as for off road, i never really used them much. but they did good on packed dirt and grass. Mud probably wouldn't be good.

I think my biggest concern is where the Kevlar actually is...Its my understanding its not the sidewalls like the MTR but rather the belts under the tread...designed to improve road noise.
That'd be a deal breaker for me. I was hoping they would be in the sidewalls like the MTR...i haven't been able to find a difinitive answer to that though...Rig will be mainly used in AZ and Utah so other than early season wheeling in higher elevation Mud really won't be an issue. Plenty of rock/dirt/gravel etc though.

I am on my second set. I find them very quiet on the highway and excellent off road, especially in snow and ice in the Sierra. I think they may be the best nonstudded snow tire I have used.
