Put a bottle of heet or similar in the tank at the next fillup (Valvoline has one that I used after I got some bad gas in North Seattle (U76 off I-5 & Northgate Wy)). Even after a refill I'm now getting better gas mileage than ever according to the scangauge.
I would wonder how common it is for these types of problems but there is money involved so I know some people will try to mix in as much water as they can without getting caught. I just never realized it.
Anyway, if you haven't tried it and you think your vehicle may not be getting the mileage you expect, or it's degraded over time, give it a try. I'm kinda pleased that a purchase of $1.50 actually works and is going to pay for itself many times over on just the first tank.
