GPS... christmas ideas

Ok Guys so I'm new to the whole expedition style 4wheeling and I'm looking to get a GPS for use in my Jeep... I also do hiking and I didn't know what kind of approach to take with this... I didn't know if there were gps units that would show where you've been and came from and things like that and which ones seem to be the best on the market for the right price. Its what I'm going to ask for christmas along with some GCI cookware and new Aux off road Hella lights! Any suggestions please! Pictures are awesome and your thoughts! Thank you so much

The Nuvi 500 is a great little GPS for the weekend offroader and the money.
Its one of the few GPS units that was designed with the 4X4 folks in mind.

I have that unit in our SAR jeep, and get the 24K map for you area.

Delorme pn-40 now that they came out with the pn-60 its very cheap for its features and it works great as a hand held as it does in your rig

I second the Garmin. I have a 550 and love it. Its small, usable on foot trails, Garmin claims its waterproof (I have a hard time believing a GPS with internal speaker can take on water...but Garmin claims it can), and it has great battery life.

I bought mine refurbished off ebay for $200 shipped. Topo maps are an additional $100.

I have the Garmin Oregon 550 in the Jeep and love it. It's waterproof and has a camera which automatically geotags your pictures

I have the Garmin 500 and I have been really happy with this little unit. Even the base maps it comes with are pretty good. Just while in off-road mode (say going to a way point off-road) don't pay attention to the turn by turn directions. They are not accurate. But, they do pretty well in on-road directions.

I use a Garmin Rino 500. Great for in the Jeep, clipped on my back pack, or on the handle bar of my quad. I have the Garmin topo maps so I can use the regular base map (city navigator) or topos. The rino has the ability to "track" and "route", and has both FRS and GMRS radio, and instant weather. You can download your tracks to superimpose on your topos and plan a route and upload it onto the rino. Nice all in one unit, but it is a handheld size.
