Grand seats in XJ?

I see it done all the time over on Jeep Forum. Can't remember if they bolt right in or not, but that's a good place to ask about it.

I don't have pics, but have seen it done. Guy I know swapped in the heated fronts, and split rear, from a Grand into his XJ. Looked factory.

I pulled my leather front seats from my XJ, and went with suspension seats.

I didn't mind the leather, but needed the support of a 'racing bucket' type seat for my back.

IIRC if your XJ is 97+ it's a direct swap... other than that you need to do some fab work. I helped a buddy do part of his install on his '89 body style. and it took a little bit of ingenuity. It's not hard- it's just a puzzle than needs to be worked out.

WJ and ZJ seats are a bolt in on 95+ XJ's. Your bolting the seat to your XJ bases, on pre 95 you need a few pieces of angle to make it work.

I disagree with the direct bolt in on a 97+ to a point. It depends on how tall you are. I have leather seats out of a 2004 wj in my 2000 xj. I am 5'7" so doing a direct bolt it is fine for me, but I do have the seat slid all the way back. With a direct bolt in yo cannot use the 6way power feature. The only power that works it the seat back will move and the lumbar support works. To get the rest to work you would have to make custom mounts because now the seats are mounted to the xj slides. I have not changed mine yet because it sits right where I want it.

I love the split seats in the rear because I have kids and can have car seats and still carry something larger if needs be. There is however very and I mean very limited leg room in the back but my kids are in car seats so that does not bother me. You do have to do some modifying of the rear seat on the sides to make it fit and a brace in the center and custome hinge is needed unless you want a huge metal piece sticking out into your cargo area.

I will try and round up some photos for you. Someone remind me if I take too long.

Mmmm...Heated Seats!!!

Man I want to do this so bad in my CJ! Stinkin' Best top dis continued their heated seats so now I'm outta luck there. But finding a set of decent used leather seats is not very easy. Unless you want to spend a mint off Ebay (plus shipping) when you could just order some Mastercraft heated seats for that much..
I need some junkyard "quality time"...
Anyone know what year GC seats are best/most comfortable?

I got mine for $200 from a jeep that was rolled with 15000 miles. I sold my drivers seat for $150 and my passenger seat for $75. I think I made out ok.

You have to cut the plastic on the bottoms of the bench seats to get them to fit

Those seats look great in there! :Wow1: I bet they are comfy. One question to clarify, for the front seats to work in a 97+ XJ the slides from the XJ seat brackets will need to be bolted to the bottom of the WJ/ZJ seats? Is it a direct bolt on or do the bottoms of the WJ/ZJ seats need to be modified? Hopefully that makes sense

You are correct. It bolts directly to the stock XJ brackets but in doing this you loose the power options. They sit really high without the power option but I am short so it works for me.
