Greg Davis Contact Info and Questions RE: Install

First off, if anyone has Greg's contact info, can you send me a note? The number I have on the directions is out of service. Thanks! :)

Can anyone here who has installed a Greg Davis bumper answer a few questions for me? I'm about to have mine installed today and the instructions are not very clear in a couple of areas. I was going to do this myself but I don't have a welder, don't really want to learn to use it on my bumper, and I need three people to hold it together while we tack it on. So. While getting a new windshield, my local shop is going to weld it together for me. I'm leaving in about 15 minutes so I hope to be able to call Greg if needed or get some of this info sometime during the install.

I already removed the rear bumper and all the hardware, but I'm confused about some of the measuring. He says measure down from the "rear window." I take this as rear window but above the rear quarter panel, or does he mean, rear door window?? He mentions drifting off nuts with a chisel. Are these the ones up on the cross member below the rear door? How the heck do you get in there with a chisel? He also mentions welding this onto the frame at the end. I had planned to get them to fab it and mount it today, then remove it and paint it later, so I could make it out for a rally this weekend and have some rear protection and a recovery point. Right now I'm raw sheet metal. Also, I removed the plastic sill plate that runs between the bumper and the rear door and broke some of the plastic tabs, so I might need to remove it install that, and also would like to be able to remove for paint touch ups. Does this thing really get permanently welded in?

Thanks everyone. I sure wish there were pictures!! :)

Wow, the welding it on bit is news to me. That would answer the question I have about how guys are doing this, because my bumper design is very similar and using just the 4 mounting bolts, the bumper is not very rigid to the frame.

You might have better luck locating Greg if you look around Dweb.

The side quarter panel protectors have to be welded on as Greg ships them loose to keep the shipping costs down for customers. There is a photo fit sequence for the GD bumper around on one of the forums or was it a guys website.... I can't remember which one, found it one day whilst surfing & never bookmarked it....... doh !

I have a bumper in route to me so I'll prob take some pic's when I fit it.... but that won't be for a while yet.... still have 2 bathrooms and a kitchen counter top to tile.... and then finish the basement for the building inspector to come approve for our occupancy permit. Building a house really gets in the way of the fun stuff :~(

Google around & you might find it or just PM Greg on Dweb.

*** Just got email from Greg, said his numbers are 704-577-0532 or work is 704-243-4017.... call him ***

Measure down from the rear window on the quarter panel or the side of the truck not from the back door. I cant remember how much material is removed but it is fairly sizable.

The nuts are tack welded onto the back side of the bumper mounting bracket ( at least mine were), I had to crawl under there with a cold chisel and knock them off. I am pretty sure they are square so they are easy to spot once you see the two mounts where the stock bumper was bolted to.

You shouldn't need to remove that plastic sill plate.

Just have them weld it together, paint it, then mount it and weld it on later if you want.

I haven't done this in about 4 years since I got mine so things could be different then I remember. If I am wrong some one please correct me.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but does GD have a web sit or something? I can not see to find it.

PM me for his contact info- he is a very good friend, and I have done many of his bumpers on my own trucks and customers as well.
