Guess the make and vintage

Hello everyone
I just picked up a Military Trailer Chassis. Guessing it to be a M101A1.
From what I understand it had S-250 Communication Shelter bolted to it
Right now I would like to find the specs and order up a lighter axle and possibly springs to lighten it up a little. Any suggestions would be great. I have some 35" tires I could put on it.
Maybe Dexter 3500 axle with electric brakes?

Wow you got a good one M101A1 or M116A1 chassis, super clean There were several makers for this trailer.
I am guessing it is a 1967 Johnson
Kasel MFG Co. Ebensburgh Pa. was one too
I like the lunette mount on the M101A1 trailers
They are built stout and fab out well.
Sell the axle and wheels on Craigslist or Steelsoldiers.com

I have two a M101A2 and M116A2 generator trailer.

My builds.

Thanks for the reply Mark.
Do you think there is a much market for the axle? Tires are brand new
What would you replace it with and would you replace the springs as well?

Keep the springs they work well loaded and unloaded. They have greasable shackles and are Army tough.
Replace the axle with one the has a bolt pattern that matches your tow vehicle and wheels and even electric brakes if needed.

The axles are desirable for the military guys the wheels match the old Army power wagons and M37? trucks.
If they are split rims, Most shops won't touch them. " truck shops will.
Craigslist or classified ads on steelsoldiers.com

I like the frames they make a great starting point for an expo build.
I am still working on my M116A2 this is how far I got.
I am thinking a tear drop may be in my future.

Nice...
It looks very close to mine. Do you have a thread going for this build?
You replaced the axle and have electric brakes? What are your future plans?

Yes, the wheels match both the M37 and the early civilian Power Wagons and some Command Cars.

If you're near Northern MN, I would be interested in the wheels, should you decide to sell them.

Nice find on a trailer chassis! Very clean.

Both my trailers have M116A2 frames that came with surge brakes and 8 bolt hubs GM that match the
military hummers and CUCV 3/4 ton trucks. My build threads are listed above.
Both axles are dexter with no brake components. I pull it with my GMC 2500HD crew cab
Your frame is very clean for the age I had to clean mine well before painting.

I have a M416 that I just picked up. I'm going to build for behind my CJ for trails, but I also want something bigger that will have a few more comforts. I'm going to build this one into a full on Expo trailer but want to keep it fairly light so the CJ can still pull it on occasion. For longer trips I will pull it with our Tahoe.
That's the plan anyway. I have a tendency to get a little carried away.

Need some advise
Getting ready to replace the axle and it appears the existing lower shock mount plate is welded to the axle.
I would like to keep the same configuration on the new 3500 lb Dexter. From what they say they only have a mount that will go on top of the springs.
Any ideas on how best to remount the shocks after the change over?
Thanks in advance

A bolt the same size as the shock bushing, cut the head off the bolt.
Fish mouth so it fits flush on the axle tube and weld it on in the desired location.

This page lists data sheets for Military trailers. Find yours scroll through the pages and see the exploded views.

I think the lower shock mount is seperate.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mark
Another option I found was to some mounts out of Angle like Tropics did (Here)
