Gunsight pass and backside of Mt Lemmon

Ended up going through gunsight pass (a little tight in a 3/4 ton suburban most of the corned i had to 3 point lol) still a bunch of fun but the trail was all washed out and muddy from all the recent rain and snow so some parts were a little challenging but didnt have to winch or jack to get off anything even though some lines took a few tries. We stopped and camped for the rest of the day and over night then finished the trail the next morning before driving to the backside of mt lemmon. Our book said not to do it in the winter and i can see why there are some good little hills to climb and it got us stuck a few times then we got stuck on the side of the trail and had to winch out which ruined my stock alternator so we had to turn around and got back to oracle before the battery died and we had to call a tow truck. Still a fun few days though

Good pics , looks like some pretty tough trail in spot for a big Suburban . I haven't been up to Mt Lemmon in 35 year ? At least you had a good time . Shows to that just because you have a winch and your charging your battery something unexpected can come along "alternator" dies ? Can't always plan for everything .

Glad you made it out OK .

Looks like a fun trip even with the electrical hassles...
oh and on your campsite pic, just a small alert but best not to camp within 300ft of a water source. In some public lands it can get you a fine/talking to, on private lands it can get a rancher to hassle you and in all cases it keeps wildlife from getting to a water source. Not being mean, just tossing out some info for you & others.

Thanks for posting the trip, I have not traveled that trail and since I am in a 1970 Suburban I value your perspective on the trail.

yea i never had issues winching before with my stock battery and alternator but this time i was really stuck so it had to pull pretty hard, luckily we were able to get back down the trail before the battery completely died.

Thanks for your warning, the next morning i actually thought about it maybe being an issue that i was parked so closer to water so i wont even mess with it next time and its more a hassle than anything because then we just had to deal with mud every time we got out of the truck. The trail was fun but definitely not made for the width of a suburban its almost too narrow for a jeep trail now and i know quads are using it sometimes.
