I've searched the threads and didn't really find anything.

Looking to install my mobile Ham radio and CB in my Wrangler, but wondered what everyone else is doing to keep them from getting lifted. It has a hard top and soft top so is there something I can do that would work no matter what top I have on? Just bought the Wrangler so I'm trying to decide the best option from those who have already plowed this ground.

Thanks!

Not a jeep, but maybe useful none the less......I used radios that I could hide or remove when not in use. You can see my installs here:

CB (CObra 75 WX ST):

HAM (Yaesu FT-8800R):

No one even knows I have the radios until I plug the handsets in. If you know what you are looking for, you can see my HAM in the cealing, but you could probably mount it in a center console or something.

Most people wont try to steal things if they think you dont have anything to steal.

Seems like just about everyone I know is running that Cobra 75.. It's a great little unit, but in the Jeep I think you're find you want a speaker mounted on the roll bar up behind your head..

Most folks I know don't worry a bit about leaving their Jeeps parked most anywhere with the tops and doors off even overnight due to the fact that you can't spot that unit unless you know exactly what you're looking for.. Even then it's a PITA to get it out and not really worth $20 worth of pawn shop fodder..

My 706mkIIG has the remote head and I had to mount it to a ram mount. I ended up fabbing a plate behind with a hole for a cable. The plate prevents the head from sliding off and the cable is mounted to the passenger seat frame.
It won't stop a determined thief but will slow them down for a bit. The insurance co. told me if its permanently mounted its covered on the policy.

Excellent, thanks all. Looking at several options and will take all of these into consideration before I decide where to mount!

I've got the speaker mounted on the roll cage behind my head and it is a good place to put it. However, I've found it sounds odd sometimes with the noise only on my left and not both sides.

Eventually I'll get around to putting more than one speaker there, such as one either side of me. Not sure if to go for then either side of the roll cage or just either side of the driver. It's usually only the driver in the car when using it for radio-work.

Of course, with the speaker mounted in the middle of the cab between the driver and the loadbed (station wagon body) is that anyone can hear the conversations clearly and equally....

Remote heads are good ;) I've hidden the radio behind some rear seats with the head on the dash under a GPS mount. It does good enough for me and is removable to some degree. But anti-theft stuff is a good idea. If they can't see it they don't know it's there, right?! ;) :D :D
