Has anyone vinyl wrapped their Expo rig?

Thinking on changing up my beat up paint.

Really don't want to splurge $$$ on a new paint job. Thinking about vinyl wrapping it. I have a friend who supposedly can get it for cheap.
Just a little concerned on how good it will hold up when on the trails. Especially when scuffing against branches, brushes, also water crossings, mud, dirt, etc.

Has any one tried this before? How did you like it?

pics?

My bro in law vinyl wraps pretty much everything. So far the dog has been quick enough to avoid it... But back to topic, he has done 4x4 vans,pick-ups, buses, snowcats etc etc. All have held up well in our harsh weather. I'll try to grab some pics later.

There have been a few vinyl-wrapped trucks here, and it seems pretty common to wrap trucks used for hunting (or psudedo-hunting) in camo.

The wrapping is usually considered to be a feature for serious trail use, as it protects the paint from the scrapes and branch pin striping. The idea is the wrap gets chewed up and, a few years later, you peel it off and have pretty paint. In your case, where the paint is already suboptimal, you may not find that much of an advantage.

Make sure we see some pictures if you proceed. :)

Unbelievable how much some of these shops charge for a wrap. Total DIY IMO.

I'm looking to spend no more than $200 on vinyl and wrapping it myself. I've done it on my Audi. With a steady hand and patience it's doable.

DIY wrap? thats an option? I have never seen it done. I would like like to cover the top of my hardtop on my Jeep. A black top in the dessert in NOT cool. I covered it in white contact paper last summer. It held up well but I would rather have something a little neater.

You might want to check with FlyNDrive (Ben).
IIRC his FJC has been wrapped for quite some time and adventures. Including a rallye in Africa.
Seems to be holding up well

Vinyl wrapping is an interesting technology. I see it more and more, I would be interested in seeing it become more common and the prices coming down.

Having said that, no way am I going to vinyl wrap my gorgeous Salsa Red Pearl 4runner! In fact, I probably paid more than I should have for the truck because I specifically did not want a boring color like white, silver, gray or black (which IMO aren't colors at all, they're the absence of color, but that's another rant...)

And I probably wouldn't vinyl wrap my old beater, even though it's got badly oxidized and wearing off paint, just because I'm sure it would cost as much to wrap the car as the car is worth! :sombrero:
