Heated windshield question

guys on a classic range rover, how exactly does the windshield heater work? i see that it has electrical connector on each side. lets say if i connect 12 volt positive to one side and negative to the other side will that make it work?

or does it work on deferent voltage?

Yes that is how it works however it draws a very large amount of current (50A or better at times) and must be powered by a suitable circuit including a heavy duty relay.
