SO after having me rub it in his face how great Australia is and how sweet HJ75's are, My dad is going down under to see for himself. So here's the thing, he want's to know what he might have to do to ship an LC 70something series (probably a toupie or a waggy) to replace his XJ. I love the 4.0L, but that truck is just bot what he realy want's. he wnt's a stick and a diesel that's not some over sized US truck. Enter the 75LC. Having lived in Queensland on a ranch for some 7 months, I drove the piss out of more thatn a few Ute's and troupies out on the property. For my money and preference in driving, they really are hands down the greatest 4x4's I've ever driven.

Basicly I need to know what the laws are for Import, shipping, etc. I'm really hoping he does this cause is as close to getting back to Oz as I'm gonna get for the next few years.

Cheers

Sorry, can't be done legally at the moment. But if it will be just a trail rig, then that's a different story. Your best hope is to find a North American BJ70 (1984-87), probably from Canada. The problem is, they are the SWB models, non-turbo, no factory lockers, no AC and often full of rust.

The other option is to buy and register a JDM 70 series in Canada. You can get almost any 70 including the 75. They will be RHD though. BJ74's run about US$10-16k. When they hit 25 years old, you can register them into the US. The earliest will be late 2009 though. LHD conversion is possible but can be quite involved.

If your heart is set on a Australian 75, it is possible to bring them to the US temporarily for no more than a year, IIRC. But then it has to go back or be destroyed.

Good luck.
