Help picking a video camera for canoe trips

Hopefully I get a little more help here than in the photo/video forem. I am headed to the Boundary Waters this summer and want to take a video camera to record the trip. I was thinking about getting a Go Pro Hero 2 HD outdoor but thought I'd see if anyone had a better suggestion. I am not wanting to spend more than about $300-350 on it and would love to be able to mount it to the canoe. Thanks for the help.

Go GoPro, I have the HD 1, and it is nice.
Plus they come with a waterproof lid for the rear.
Get the screen for playback/viewing while shooting, as it adds more ease to the camera.

Yep, Go Pro is hard to beat. I had a GoPro Hero then moved to a couple different Contours and now have moved back to a Go Pro Hero2. The LCD Bacpac really is worth the extra coin. I picked my GoPro Hero 2 up for $240 and the BacPac for $39, of course I constantly refresh slickdleas.net for those type of deals, but they are out there. I also have a Kodak Zx5 just to shoot freehand stuff because I usually have my GoPro Mounted to the back of the boat. The Kodak does what I need it to do.

We looked at GoPro and similar devices. They are very specialized and expensive. Also we wanted a snapshot camera too. We found the solution to both problems in one unit, a Lumix ruggedized waterproof camera. Same or less cost than the GoPro stuff, uses conventional camera mounting solutions, and the quality is way better. One device for multiple applications means less gear.

Edit: See Panasonic compact tough. The new FT4/TS4 is out. Also forgot to mention GPS tagging support is great. Buy a spare battery.
