Help with my squatting XJ

My XJ has a budget 3" lift, shackle and front coil. It has been very satisfactory for 5 years but alas no longer, it now has a semi permanent 300# load about 10" behind the rear bumper (mobility scooter and lift) so it squats about 5" when loaded. Any suggestions of shocks and springs will help.

Hey Bob,

I am not sure what you have in mind as far as budget goes, but I would recommend that you give Dirk at DPGoffroad (http://dpgoffroad.com/) a call. They specialize in XJ lifts, and have several different rear/front spring rates available. He will work with you and help you decide what is best for your vehicle. I know that they have dual rate heavy duty rear leaf packs that seem like they would be perfect for you. DPG sells Old Man Emu suspensions, and OME is top of the line in terms of quality. Best of luck!

it may be worth looking at installing and air bag load helper system, i think firestone make them. but in addition to that, new leaves would defiantly be in order if all you have done to date is increase the hight with longer shackles.

Kevin is correct Old Man Emu is going to be your best bet. They have several different spring rates based on the load that you are carring. Their pricing is higher than others but it you take a look around you will find the quality of parts and ride after are the best offered.

Seeing that you originally wanted and went with a budget lift... I suggest a "Bastard Pack" leaf setup you can Google or go to NAXJA.org and check it out. It's a mixture of Dodge and your XJ leafs and just new leaf retainers. Always smart to replace U bolts when removing leafs too. You can use as many or few leafs as desired. I just sold a pair for $50 that I built but never used.
You do not mention who needs the Mobility Chair. If you have trouble getting around yourself I am pretty sure on that XJ board that locals would help. Our chapter is the RedRiver club we have a few members in your area. To bad you were not closer I could help.

However if you want to spend the $ to replace than I agree Old man Emu is good choice.

Ive got a similar problem too. 3" Zone full leaf packs (installed back in october) and it looks like its sagging already. I want to raise the rear about an inch. Will lift shackles be my best bet?

Shackles would work but if it has only been five months and it's already sagging, I would contact Zone and see what they say. They're usually pretty good do deal with.
