High output alternators

Nn I have a 2000 D2. I recently put in a dual battery setup. I run all of my accessories on my second battery, a fridge, a bunch of lights, my C.B. etc. My current alternator is having trouble keeping up. I'm sure it is just because it's old, but I was wondering if there is any benefit to putting in a high output alternator since I have to replace it anyways?
I would also like to be able to charge my batteries at idle which I understand a normal alternator does not excellent at.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pulling down them batteries

IMHO, AGM batteries 'bigger the better" and two (2) alternators "stock" or slightly higher output is the trick. That being said if you draw them batteries down too where the alternator (s) can't bring em back up then a small generator w/charger maybe needed too. The wire gauge needs to be increased from the alternator (s) to match or exceed the alternator (s) output and fused then to a distribution block then wherever.

There are aftermarket brackets to install dual alternators on just about anything keeping in mind you may have to drive the aux alternator off one of your existing pulleys.

I've hand crafted my second alternator brackets and enhanced the wiring too.

Bosch and Mean Green both make high output alternators that should work for you. Bosch is newer to the market, but I can speak of Mean Green and they are fantastic, and bulletproof.

Another alternative is to have yours rebuilt locally. They should be able to provide you with higher output and will probably be less expensive.
