So all my Jeep buddies keep making jokes about the 9 Montero owners in the US that actually use them and modify them for what those crazy Japanese engineers designed them to do.

Sadly ... sometimes I believe there's only 9 of us. Which brings me to my next question ... how many of us that we know of are there in the US? I'm going to guess that the total of modified Monty owners is less than 50. Compared to the 50,000 Jeeps. I love being "unique"!

Of course, those numbers are completely flopped once we leave the borders of good 'ole 'Merica.

Yeah ... but of those ... how many do you guys think are mall crawlers?

I know for certain there's a quite a few Montero owners that didn't even know the vehicle was capable of driving down the beach. Hell, it took me about 2 hours to get my dad's into 4WD the other day, because he never uses it ... and don't get me started on how long it took to the the center diff lock to kick in ...

Let's see:

I modified a really nice 87 Montero with an oak tree, killing an otherwise really nice 87 Montero.

I have modified a gold 86 Montero, the above silver 87 Montero, a black 87 Raider, aqua and burgundy 91 Monteros with air tools and a pair of demolition saws to harvest rust repair and custom order body panels for various people.

I transformed my red 87 Raider into a small utility truck for work and drove the crap out of her for 5 years straight. I used various tire/rim combos for the particular earthwork jobs I worked on, towed lots of trailers.

All but the red Raider were modified into parts vehicles, plus I have another 2 in downward progress to support the fallen.

Of the production numbers a few posts up, I have had (1) 85 Montero, (2) 86 Monteros, (3) 87 Raiders, (2) 87 Monteros, (2) 89 Monteros, (2) 90 Monteros, (2) 91 Monteros = 14!

Does this count?

I think you living a shelter life. There are many sites to check out Monteros and their owners, start by going to the wire.

Pretty sure there are lots more than 50, 4x4wire is full of them. Are you excluding sports on your "count"? I will admit i get a lot of strange looks when i tell people about my modified sport. I do understand what you are saying about being unique, the entire week i was in moab wheeling i was the only mitsubishi product that i saw.

BTW, everytime I see this topic thread on the main Mitsu forum page, I always automatically think Toyota Highlander.

In "The Highlander" series...the expression was 'there can be only one...'

In this thread, a Toyota was introduced.

Pick, all I said.

I followed a Highland down Lippencott Pass my last trip through Death Valley. I was even nice enough to pick up the pieces that were torn off :)

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.

I saw the same thing happen, except it was over Steel Pass.
