Hilux question, Reffered to as a KUN25?

Well alright then! Yeah first gear in the Hilux is good for like 30 feet... In low range it crawls. The 2.5 D4D has good power and drives very well. It was hard to find a clean used Hilux though. Most of them are beat to hell and back (but still drive surprisingly well). I looked at some 2010s with half the Kms and they were in such worse shape from mine use that when I found the 2007 I bought it fast as clean examples dont last for sale very long.

The Prado is such a nice truck it amazes me every time I drive it. Simple and reliable. Interior is not as fancy as a Lexus but not as spartin as my Hilux. All I did to the truck was replace the suspension with Old Man Emu and swap some decent tires on it. Removed the running boards and added some cheap mud flaps. My wife and I have been all over Chile in it. Its a great travel truck. Reliable, capable and comfortable. I tried finding a 3.0 turbo diesel model but they are only sold in Argentina if Im not mistaken. Chile never got the Diesel Prado. Although Ive seen some around imported I assume.

Here are some photos of the last trip to the South Of Chile, Puerto Varas. We drove some of the famous Carretera Austral as well.

I wish we had more to explore here in the USA. I bet you have a lot of fun down there in SA.

Before I moved here I traveled here several times with my wife who is Chilean. She also loves to travel. We lived together in the US for 2.5 years but decided to move back to Chile.
It is a beautiful country and it does have a lot to offer.
The people here are awesome, Ive been lucky. One of my new friends here in Chile I meet through ExPo on this forum. He is now my regular mountian biking partner and we ride nearly every week. Thanks ExPo!
Also the food is awesome (if you like seafood), and the natural places are in abundance. From the north to the south its all natural. Hell even the capital city of Santiago with 7 million people is surrounded by giant mountians. Giant like 10,000 feet to 22,000 feet...

Latin America is for sure different and it took some getting use to but over all its been a positive exsperince for me. I do miss some places in the US. I did my fair share of traveling in the US as well, it has a lot to offer it just has more people and their for a natural area that seems to be dwindling.

My sister lives in Bogota. The food in Colombia is ok, but they don't do much with seafood.

Last time I visited her, I was amazed at all the cool Toyotas lurking around down there. I wanted to help buy her a truck so we looked at a few. We also found a curious Jeep Commando looking truck. I guess they were manufactured in SA for a while. Do you have them in Chile?

Jeep Commando looking truck? Humm not many old Jeeps here. As for a look a like, No I havent seen any that look like a Jeep Commando.

We have all sorts of Toyota 4wds though. Lots of old BJ and FJ-40s and some 70 series. Most of the older Toyota's here are in very good condition outside of the Hilux which is abused world wide. Chile is no exception. Right now there is a 60 series Amby door Cruiser for sale with like 82,000km on it. Its a sweet rig. Things like that you can find here. As well as the famous Nissan Patrol. Both the Y60 and 61. Those are sweet rigs. My buddy here has a built Y61 and its awesome.

Chile has a very large auto market for such a small country. Everyone is here. The Chinese, Japanese, German's, Italian's, French, Britsh stuff and the USA. All the brands from all the countrys are here. Funny enough Chevrolet is the number one selling brand in Chile. By a lot.

Here we get the regular Chevy Silverado 1500. I have seen 2500, 3500. Although they don't sell many of the big ones.

Lots and lots of the Chevy DMax trucks. Same size as my Hilux with a small turbo diesel engine. Similar to what the US has with the Colorado but its a different truck. They are nice looking rigs. They use the electronic tcase same all the Global Ford Ranger. Only trucks left right now with a manual tcase are Toyota and Nissan.

Even the Chinese Foton Terracota has an electric tcase (borg werner) and it has a Cummins engine, dana axles and front diff and a Getrag trans. Weird little truck.
