Hot 12V outlet in center console

Hey all, thought I'd pass this bit along for those of you Pathfinder owners that have the 12v outlet in the center console, facing the rear seats. This outlet is only hot when the key is on, and is controlled by a simple ol' relay.

All you need to do is get a new relay from Radio Shack, removed the plastic cover from it, and then solder the tab down to where is always has current through it.

Trim the mounting tab on the relay cover, plug it back in, and voila! Now you have a constant power 12V outlet in the rear.

This could also be done with a wire jumper or something similar, but I had the spare relay and soldering tools around to do it this way.

Mine is a 1996, but this will work on any Pathfinder that has an outlet in the center console that is controlled by a relay in the underhood electrical box.

Which means, and I'm guessing here, that this probably works for Xterras and anything wired in similar fashion.

At least on the Xterras we've got permanently hot outlets in the console and back near the rear door, so we're pretty much set that way. It's only really problematic if you're like me and want to have tunes AND a handheld CB running at the same time.
