Hotel Room, Hot Meal Preparation 101 for the Wanderer

Love this. I've cooked way too many times in a hotel room. Usually resort to finding a place with open-door access and firing up the JetBoil!

I would think a little 2qt crock pot would be great. A crock pot is nothing more than an electric Dutch Oven and all the recipes work equally well. I have even baked a cake in the crock pots. You can start the meal in the morning and have it ready when you get back to the hotel at night.

I cook about 75% of the time in my room, even on business travel...had to get pretty creative after years on the road...great link...thanks for posting

This is great and needs to be expanded with recipes, I had to work out of town last year. I grilled dinner for awhile but got old after working all day, I do like the crock pot idea and having dinner ready when I would get home.

That looks pretty cool. I'd almost want it to cost a bit more.

Something that serves well as a crock pot is a small rice cooker. Aroma is the go to brand of your serious rice eaters. I have a 6-cup 300W model I just bought. My last one I had for 20? years. The only reason I tossed it is because cheap electrical appliances with heating elements make me skittish after 20 years. It is for all intents and purposes a crock pot. You can stew up some goodness in these little honeys. The stainless steel pot is easy to clean. And a free wooden spatula!

I tote around my own four cup coffee machine, coffee and BFF travel mug in a dedicated canvas bag. I rarely use it for anything more than it's intended purpose but the psychological affect of having my coffee in my cup as I drive off makes the hotel (free continental breakfast) experience dissipate a little faster.
