How can I load a quad with a crane.

I have a Kawasaki Bayou quad that I need to load on the back of my rig using a the existing crane. The deck is about 60" inches off the ground.

I am trying to figure the best and easiest way to sling it.

Any ideas?

Where on the deck is the crane mounted? Can you use it as a winch with ramps?

If not, I'm sure the military cargo folks on here would know where the lifting points on a quad are.

Either way, be careful!!

If you want to sling it on, instead of driving it on via ramps, why not replace a wheel lug nut with one with a ring and sling from the wheels.
Easy to install, it puts your sling straps outboard, the wheels can support the weight (1/4 each) no problem and you can then use them as tie down points once loaded.
This method (ringed lug bolts or nuts) is often used to tie down cars to trailers.
A ring welded to the proper size rod coupler would be the easy way to go.

yeah always best to lift from the wheels. Not sure if you will need a spreader bar or not.

you could run a rope, strap or chain hooped around the base of the tires with something to choke the slack on the outside of the tire to keep it from sliding completely around the tire. hook the section of hoop on the outside of the tire to across the top of the atv then hook your boom line to the center of that. then lift it and swing it onto your bed.

Attach straps to the racks and lift. They are solidly mounted to the frame
Never do this the racks on every atv on the market except the Polaris mil-spec quads are not supported well enough. After working years in an atv service center I have seen many ways to tie down and lift atvs and the small tabs holding on the rack are very easily bent and broken. I would suggest a lug nut with a ring or using a sling underneath the frame with a stabilizer bar.

After reading all the ideas.

The rack idea sounds bad. The racks are strong enough to pick it up and slide it but I do not trust the mounts.

The first idea is to use the lug nuts. Either using a single tab under the nut or two tabs that are bent 90 degrees connected by a bolt and spacer to form the lifting point.

The second idea is to use a spreader bar from the front to the rear and use straps to attach to the frame.

The last idea is the original idea. Fabricate a platform to drive the quad onto and use a four point sling to lift it.
