How Do I tap into an existing 40 amp wire?

I have a 12 volt battery box that my friend and I built for my E150 van and I want to move it back and forth to my E350 extended diesel van.

I found the 40 amp auxiliary trailer battery wire and I want to tap into it for charging my house battery. I am looking for some sort of t soldered t connector. I saw a T tap connector. I was thinking that there has to be a better way than cutting into the wire and crimping with the T tap. I have never soldered.

What type of connector should I use?

The battery box is wired with a quick connect 3 12 awg SO cord.

There are now connectors that you crimp, heat with a hot air gun, and they simultaneously solder the connection inside and shrink wrap the outside. I forget what they are called but someone will fill that in in no time at all. Amazon, etc. sell them.

These are called 'Electrical Butt Connector', comes with different sizes. Available on Amazon.

^ That's the general term. He's speaking specifically about the type you crimp with solder already inside, and a heatshrinkable outer sheath that usually has glue as well, to make the seal waterproof.

Wurth has some of this style, there are many manufacturers. They are pretty much the do-it-all solution, but they're not cheap.
