How much weight is TOO much weight?

Thank you!! The great thing is I can make this Rubicon look identical to my white one with a lift. I actually like the ease of getting in and out. Easier for my dog. Rides great so far. A leveling kit might be in the future, but I would like to keep the stock suspension as long as possible. Plus, my Rubicon is better than my Sport in every way. So happy with the swap at this point.

I know what you mean about trying to keep it mostly stock, as that is my plan. But it's just more fun to go crazy....

I think I have finally settled on a bumper. The winner is Pronghorn. At 49 lbs it's about the same as stock and I like that it is modular so I can change it as my needs change. All of the accessories they have are pretty cool too. I just need to confirm that it is compatible with the airbags and I should be good to go. The only thing I hate about it is the price....but realistically it's only about $300 more than AEV, but less than half the weight. So I'll save from having to lift the Jeep or get a leveling kit. Maybe save on gas too, who knows?

You will save on gas. Weight equals more gas burn. I would put a teraflex Leveling spacer lift, or AEV 2" spacer lift. Both work fantastic. The pronghorn is awesome. Very expensive but sweet. The only thing I don't like about it is the grill guard section.

Bee aware, I think our Wranglers weigh much more than Jeep say at curbweight, and in reality we have much lower payload than we think. I think a Sahara have payload of about 862 pounds and a Rubicon less. Here in Sweden I can check the stats for every Wrangler on Transportstyrelsen (Transport Government in Sweden) webpage if I have the plate number.
My 2013 Rubicon unlimited have a curbweight of 1995kg (4 398pounds) and GVWR is 2540kg (5599 pounds) and then a payload of 545kg (1201 pounds) according to there website and if I check several Wranglers they have the same numbers even the Saharas. If i look at some newer Wranglers at 2014-2015 they have higher and individual different curbweights, so my theory is that Transportstyrelsen have actually weighed them and they got lot less in payload, the other numbers like mine was not weighed it was the official numbers from Jeep. Example a 2014 Sahara unlimited has a curbweight of 2149kg (4 737 pounds) and my Rubicon have curbweight of 1995kg (4 398pounds) so I think they have weighed the Sahara but not my Rubicon, a Rubicon have to weigh more. The Sahara in this case only have a payload of 391kg (862 pounds)
Just for the fun of it here is the Wrangler Sahara with plate number GHU695 and the ad http://www.blocket.se/stockholm/Jee...6_V6_Sahara_Fullutr_55643868.htm?ca=23_11&w=3 and enter the plate number here on transportstyrelsens website You will find al information about that vehicle here https://fordonsfraga.transportstyrelsen.se/fragapaannatfordon.aspx

The payload on some diesel Wranglers unlimited year 2014 and 2105 here in Sweden got very low at only about 340kg (749 pounds). Diesel engines are more heavy.

I try and think about it like a 4-wheel motorcycle....

Here is what it looked like for my 2000 mile 13+ day trip....

The car was just about 3600-3700lbs completely loaded with me, gear, and 15 gallons of extra fuel.

Here is what it looked like packed up for the 2014 Ultimate Adventure 13 day trip....

The car was just about 3800lbs completely loaded with me, a co-pilot, gear for two, spare tire, etc. That trip ended up being about 3150+ miles.

Example a 2014 Sahara unlimited has a curbweight of 2149kg (4 737 pounds) and my Rubicon have curbweight of 1995kg (4 398pounds) so I think they have weighed the Sahara but not my Rubicon, a Rubicon have to weigh more.

I wonder if the variations come from wet or dry curbweight, and hardtop/soft top, weighed with both tops during shipping, etc.

I'd think the best thing anyone can do (if they are worried about it) is to throw it on a scale yourself.

That Willys Jeep is awesome!

Metcalf, you might be traveling a little too light for my tastes, not to mention my wife. But I'll bet it was a blast.

It can be a tough balance, but I think there has to be a happy medium. I try and go on the light side because I like simple and minimalism. I like showing people an opposite viewpoint of how you can do things in this hobby.
